How to Prevent Smelly Exercise Clothes - It's Easy!

Here's a quick run-down of the efficient and simple ways to remove the pungent smell of sweat that ruins your expensive exercise clothes.  These methods are very effective and cheap as well!

Don't use a hot air dryer to dry smelly exercise clothes as this seems to set the smell in and makes it impossible to remove.  Always dry your clothes in the fresh air because UV rays help to kill the bacteria that cling to clothing fibres.  Leave your washed exercise clothing in the sunshine for as much time as possible.

Baking Soda, which you can buy in any supermarket, is excellent for neutralizing the lingering smells on exercise clothes.  You just need to mix the soda with a little warm water and then rub the paste on the underarm or other areas.  Leave the paste on for at least 15 minutes – you can leave it overnight if required – and then machine wash as usual.

Aspirin and Cream of Tartar mixed together with warm water are also good at neutralizing smelly exercise clothing.  Place 3 white aspirins and 1 tablespoon of Cream of Tartar in a bowl, with a cup of warm water to make a paste.  Then get an old toothbrush and scrub the paste into the smelly areas and leave for at least 20 minutes.  Then wash as usual.

Salt can also be a very effective smell remover and it's easy to use as well.  Dissolve several spoonfuls of ordinary salt in a bucket or bowl of warm water. Soak the stinky exercise clothes for at least an hour or leave overnight and then wash as usual.

Vinegar is another powerful odour neutralizer that helps get rid of stubborn smells. Fill the washing machine with water, then add 1/3 cup of vinegar and set the machine to pre-soak the exercise clothes for at least 10 minutes and then launder as usual. If necessary, add another 1/3 cup of vinegar during the rinse cycle.

You can also use special anti-bacterial washing detergent or if you can afford it, buy anti-microbial exercise clothing which is guaranteed to be completely odour-free!
